Spambox.us might be for sale.. please read

June 5th, 2008 by webmaster

INFO: Spambox is not for sale anymore — I finally did not accept to sell it.  New plans, new features are coming !

Hi Everyone,

I’ve tried to avoid that for a while but I came to the point that I have to sale most of my belongings….

Well there you go, the domain and the service itself might be for sale, along with the servers, hosting for at least a year, and maintenance. I never had to make anything to push traffic to it, today it gathers more than 120,000 pageviews and +50k unique visitors per month and it regularly hits the top 100k websites from alexa web ranking.

Alexa ranking

So to resume it all, I need to find at least $40k (25kE) by the end June.

Please do not hesitate to send me any serious offers or ideas that could help me to reach this goal. You can contact me by mail at the address on the bottom of the this page: http://www.spambox.us/about

Thanks a lot,

Frederic

I don’t get it. So, if you receive $40K by June, you won’t sell spambox?

  2. webmaster Says:

    Hi there,

Yes, if my situation gets resolved before the end of June, I won’t have to sell all I got, including spambox

  3. spamboxer Says:

With the way it’s phrased, it’s like your holding yourself hostage for ransom.

    8-)

  4. Vivek Says:

why don’t you try to monetize it using some sort of subscription fee model?

  5. MrMel Says:

Can you be a little more specific?

  6. spambox-lover Says:

Why don’t you put some banners on your website to earn some $$$?

  7. chris Says:

How much are you looking for, roughly?

  8. JR Says:

Why dont you add banners to the website?

  9. SRC Says:

Sad to read this post. Please let me allow to take this opportunity to thank you for this excellent service. I wish you all the best in your endeavor to collect the amount that you require. Hope that our favorite Spambox will continue to exists and help us for a long timeto come.

  10. fcastro Says:

With so much traffic coming to the site couldn’t you just add ad revenue to your site? I enjoy using this site so I would not mind banner ad’s etc or even click thru to support your work.

  11. GameCharmer Says:

Why not include a google ad or two? If your site is getting serious hits, bank on the ad income. Granted, it probably won’t be $40,000 but it’s better than nothing, right?

  12. George Says:

I really hope the issue has been resolved by now! (I saw this post kinda late)

In case you are still having financial problems I could suggest more adds and a “please-donate” campaign. If every visitor donates $1 you’ll get a lot of money pretty fast!

Please keep us up to date :)

  13. spamboxer #2 Says:

  15. Laz Says:

What is the price range you’re looking for? Without a price, how can anyone tell if they are interested? It’s unclear whether you’re selling the site for 40K or if you need 40K (from some other source) so that you don’t have to sell the site.

With a price range, I am be interested. Thanks!

  16. Laz Says:

contact me if still for sale.

  17. Ulises Acosta Says:

Do you have a paypal account where we can send donations?
(It would be helpful if you put a donations button on the main page)

  18. Brian Says:

That’s a lot of moolah. Good luck, man!

  19. RP Webmaster Says:

I know it’s late, but I have a few ideas, you could contact me.

  22. Puppy for sale Says:

Ok, so did you sell Spambox?

If not – have you ever thought about monetizing the site a little – maybe with some obscure ads that aren’t obnoxious?

I’d be interested in knowing what a site with that kind of traffic would be worth…

  23. Daniel Says:

And whats the status? You need to sell? And why do you need to sell? A server costs about $30/month i think.

    Cheerio

    Daniel

  24. Joe Says:

It is now November 17th, 2008. Any updates?

  25. Mr. Dweeb Johson Says:

Ever heard of Temporary inbox or Guerilla mail?. Why arent they threatning to sale too..

  26. Jasper Says:

Hmm, did I just say something? Nah, its probably the truth so it doesn’t need to be mentioned, right?

  27. Christi Says:

Are you looking for offers for spambox.us, if so I can do that but not on a blog.

  28. Dave Says:

You could always add a “suggested” paypal donation for the users.

  29. Kathleen MacDowell Says:

So did you get some money? Are you doing ok? Wish I could help. Seems like it might be a fantastic money maker if I were into that. Not that I’m not into money, just not into commercializing a great site/idea like this. But if you need to do that, couldn’t you?

    Regards,

    Kathleen

  30. Me Says:

Damn.. i cant beleive there are so few posts about this

  31. Thomm Says:

  32. JUNiKES Says:

  33. tem Says:

    Season’s greetings.

I’m sorry things are difficult for you right now. I’d contribute, but am not employed.

I wonder if you could answer a few questions:

    1. Have you sold spambox.us?

    2. Is this service designed so that the next owner doesn’t store any log files, etc? How will I know if they change this important feature?

    3. Spambox.us is a very unique service – it’s always the good ones that have difficulty, especially with respect to anonymity, privacy, and autonomy on the internet!!!!!!!!

Appreciate knowing what the long-term reality for this important service will be like.

Thanks and best wishes for a great new year,
    tem

  34. tem Says:

May also suggest that allowing people to choose their own forwarding user name (@spambox.us) might be more effective and appealing, encouraging more people to use the service.

There are many other ways you could raise money through your site/services, without compromising the integrity.

  35. Misreckoning Says:

    What happened?

  36. alborz Says:

he IS being held hostage by the international carrot terrorists.

they are infamous carrots that hold all the good web services hostage (first was opendns.com and now spambox.us)

  37. Spamm0r Says:

    Keep dreaming…

I could re-create this site from scratch for less than $40. I think with the $39,960 remaining that would bring in some big advertising. Your site is worth around $200-300

  38. Barry Says:

Put up some banner ads and we’ll click them for you!

  39. spamlover Says:

So did you get the funds you needed? Is Spambox still up for sale?

  40. DrFred Says:

Hmmmmmm… It looks like Spambox is still operational, and it’s 2009. Musta got your $40K?

  41. Zeb Says:

You’re still up. Does this mean you got 40k from somewhere?

Can you give me a copy of the script that you run here?

  42. philofperth Says:

If you can sell Spambox to “make ends meet” , does this mean it is actually costing you money, rather than making money? Can’t it be made into an asset by, for example advertising? If not I don’t see how you would expect to sell it.

  43. ROFLPOTUMUS Says:

try google adwords. its not gonna be much (maybe), but its better then nothing

  44. Rowdy Rhodes Says:

  45. Summer Hope Says:

Uhmm ok this are really obvious solutions, but you could offer more features for a bit of subscription cost, or put up ads. This site is really great, and if you really need it to keep it running we’re more than willing to pay!

  46. nub Says:

try selling the site to google.

  47. billy porter Says:

or, because you are a in need of money, you could get a good price for selling users email adresses and you will be able to make enough money not to need to sell the site?
i’m sure you don’t intend it to sound that way, and will always keep your privacy promise but it’s the 1st thing that came into my head when i read it.
maybe you could re-phrase it making it sound like a great business opportunity for an investor?

  48. u812 Says:

I would be willing to pay for the service and I’m sure many more maybe continue with free and have a few more options for premium to help pay for it

  49. where is the inbox Says:

I signed up thinking that this was a great idea. But there is a HUGE problem. I sent an email using spambox to someone I wanted to avoid spam with and LOW AND BEHOLD where do the mails go? WHERE IS THE DANGED INBOX?? They must send the email somewhere and its impossible to find on your home page… DUH!

  50. Scot Says:

wish you the best of luck buddy.

  51. Joseph Says:

Hey I dont have the money but I do have a solution. I can help you bring traffic into the wesite ane make moeny of it. By driving traffic into the site. no im trying to scam you.

  52. Haris Says:

40g is a lot of money to come up with by the end of June. I just stumbled upon this website when i noticed. Try putting up more advertisements on more known websites. Have the advertisements say this website requires help or it will be gone for good. Explain the website and how it works and how would it help people if you were to keep it.Ask people to help and donate money to you and in return you tell them you will have a section on top donors and you would create some kind of vip membership for the donors.

just a thought.. hope that helps you or helps you realize what you have to do to come up with 40g

    Haris

  53. Serious guy Says:

    In a way, he is!

Maby improve the way advertisements are placed to create revenue, place them above content wil prove usefull!

  54. Miguel Says:

    Frederic,

Good afternoon. I’m sorry to hear about your situation and having to sell all belongings. That is never a good thing to have to do. Unless of course all you have is gold bars. I digress, Is this website still for sale? Does it generate any revenue? If so do you have reports? Do you have google analytics reports for traffic visit verifcation? Also, is this your software? Or can it be bought anywhere on the net? Thank you for your time and consideration.
